A passion for flying

Stephen Daly
For those dreaming of their next visit to the skies, here’s a chance to live vicariously through our fourth Air bp Sterling Scholar, Stephen Daly. Back in December we joined Stephen as he took off from Coonagh Airport (EICN) in Limerick, Ireland.

Our Sterling Pilot Scholarship, which is valued at around £10,000, aims to assist aspiring UK pilots with little or no experience of flying to achieve their Private Pilot’s Licence (PPL). It also serves to demonstrate bp’s goal of encouraging young people to gain a better understanding of the importance of STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths) education for their futures and the wider aviation industry. Since the programme began in 2015 we have awarded five Sterling Pilot Scholarships to young students throughout the UK.

Commenting previously on his scholarship, Stephen (who acquired his PPL in 2018 and is currently studying aeronautics) said:

“I am incredibly grateful to Air bp for the funding. The Sterling Pilot Scholarship has given me an opportunity to work towards a career as a commercial airline pilot that I simply wouldn’t have been able to fund myself, or at least nowhere near as fast.”
