Santos Dumont Airport
Named after an aviation pioneer, this airport is famed as having one of the most scenic landing approaches in the world. The runway was originally built on a land fill over the Atlantic Ocean in 1934. Think you know the airport we’re referring to?

The iconic Sugarloaf Mountain and Guanabara Bay greet aircraft as they approach the airport, which has some of the shortest runways in the world.

 

Although this airport no longer accepts international flights, it is used for domestic and military flights as well as business and general aviation. It is still considered one of the busiest airports in the country.
