The beginning of March saw us attending and supporting the fifth Aviation Africa summit, which took place in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. The theme for this year’s event was ‘Creating a sustainable future for Africa’s aviation industry.’ Air BP discussed sustainability initiatives such as leading carbon offsetting programmes, sustainable aviation fuels and being the first aviation fuel provider to have carbon-neutral operations globally across 250 operated sites.
Delegates and panellists debated existing and new challenges as discussions surrounding the coronavirus outbreak, sustainability and the need for more open African skies unified more than 600 attendees from 70 countries. Air BP’s low carbon solutions were a key talking point at the event as we discussed our experience in the use of electric powered ground vehicles and our adoption of innovative stop-start technology in hydrant dispensers as well as our continued investment in the research and development of sustainable aviation fuel.

Also at the beginning of March, but this time in the UK, we were delighted to take part in the British Business and General Aviation Association’s (BBGA’s) Annual Conference, which followed the theme, “Flight to sustainability’. Tom Parsons, Air BP’s low carbon commercial development manager and sustainable aviation fuel expert joined a number of industry professionals and speakers to discuss topics ranging from sustainable aviation fuels, coronavirus, illegal charter, the future of our airports and the future of the aviation strategy in the UK.
