About the role
This role primarily centers on the deep understanding of the power market dynamics within the US Eastern Interconnect market. As an Integrated Energy Modelling Analyst, you will apply your expertise to generate insights and analysis crucial for business decisions, especially in designing regulatory scenarios for the energy system. Your proficiency in models such as PLEXOS will be instrumental in integrating these scenarios. Additionally, you will be representing the team both internally and externally, while also contributing to our flagship economic publications.
In this role, you will:
Design, develop, and implement regulatory scenarios within BP’s fundamental energy system models for the US markets.
Conduct advanced analysis of energy markets and trends within the US Eastern Interconnect, understanding key drivers such as generation (wind, solar, gas-fired, coal-fired, etc.), transmission, regulatory, and demand.
Integrate regulatory scenarios in fundamental models like PLEXOS to gain in-depth insights.
Contribute to the company's flagship economic publications related to the energy trends.
Collaborate closely with internal teams, especially trading and strategy departments, to inform and shape business decisions based on your analysis.
Monitor market developments, especially regulatory issues, that could impact energy prices.
Represent the team in external forums and conferences, reinforcing the company's leadership in power market analysis.
PhD/Master's degree in Engineering, Economics, Mathematics, Computer Science, or related analytical field.
Experience in Power Market Fundamental Analysis or Energy Market/Energy Systems Modelling.
Proficiency in using and running models in tools like PLEXOS or equivalent for energy market analysis.
Knowledge of optimization theory, linear programming, and Mixed Integer Programming.
Demonstrated ability in scenario designing and implementation in Fundamental/Energy Market Models.
Expertise in Microsoft Office Suite, especially Excel, along with other analytical tools like Python.
Strong analytical, interpersonal, and presentation skills, with an interest in breaking down complex data into comprehensible insights.
Fluency in English.
Knowledge of programming languages like SQL and experience with database management is an advantage.
