BP Australia continues to actively monitor and respond to the COVID-19 situation

Last updated:

The safety and well-being of our customers, employees, suppliers and the broader community is our utmost priority, and we also remain focused on maintaining safe, compliant and reliable operations. Our liquid fuel supply chain continues to operate as normal and all sites – including retail sites and terminals – remain operational

Safety at bp retail sites

The safety and wellbeing of our employees and our customers is our utmost priority.

Practicing good hygiene and keeping a healthy physical distance between individuals is our most powerful weapon in fighting this virus and saving lives. In March 2020 we implemented a number of additional safety measures, which we continue to undertake, at all company-operated retail stores. These measures are designed to help protect customers and employees, and include:

  • check-out screens to help protect customers and employees
  • masks for employees where required by state government guidelines
  • social distancing signage and floor markers
  • increased sanitising procedures in store and on the forecourt, ensuring employees are washing their hands regularly, wiping fuel pump and dispenser handles with disinfectant and making paper towels available. Handwashing facilities are also available to our customers in our onsite bathrooms
  • hand sanitiser at all store entry points
  • encouraging the use of contactless forms of payment such as BPme – an app that lets you pay for fuel from your car – or in-store methods such as PayWave
  • closing in-store seating areas where required by state government guidelines
  • not accepting reusable coffee cups
  • offering single use condiments with food purchases
  • social distancing procedures for accepting deliveries and replenishing stock

Selected bp retail stores operate home delivery via Uber Eats and Deliveroo. Customers choosing BP Couchfood have access to a selection they’d find at our stores, including special occasion treats plus a number of healthy snacks like protein bars and trail mix. Also available at some sites are pantry basics like milk and bread plus the YouFoodz fresh ready-made meals. Please check the apps for availability in your area.

Truck stops

bp continues to focus on keeping truck stop facilities open wherever possible, within government guidelines and recommendations.

While we endeavour to keep information about facilities and opening hours up to date on our store locator, rapidly evolving situations mean that this information can sometimes be out of date. Please check the relevant state or territory government's guidelines and restrictions for up to date information that may affect truck stop facilities and opening hours.

Supporting our community

Free drink for healthcare workers

To say thank you to the amazing work Australia's health care workers are doing, we offered them a free small coffee or bottled water from our Wild Bean Cafes.

PPE donation to the Royal Flying Doctor Service

Together with Air BP, we have donated 35,000 N95 masks to our partner the Royal Flying Doctor Service. This will support the safety of their staff as they continue to provide emergency and health care services during this time.

Keeping St John Ambulance on the move

We are supporting St John Ambulance by providing fuel cards to keep their fleet on the move. As their work is now more important than ever – we’re helping St John volunteers get their ambulances to where they are needed most.

Fuelling Meals on Wheels

As there is now a greater demand for their services – we’re helping Meals on Wheels by providing fuel cards to support their volunteers in delivering food to vulnerable and isolated Australians.

Supporting Rapid Relief Team

Rapid Relief Team volunteers are delivering isolation boxes to vulnerable Australians during this time. We are providing them with fuel cards to support their volunteers in delivering these isolation boxes.
