Sangachal Terminal Holds Second Garadagh School Football Tournament

The Sangachal Terminal is holding the Second Garadagh School Football Tournament – a project it arranges annually to promote physical training of children from neighbouring communities.

 

ACG Participating Interests are: BP (operator – 34,1%), Unocal (10,2%), SOCAR (10%), INPEX (10%), Statoil (8,6%), ExxonMobil (8%), TPAO (6.8%), Devon (5,6%), ITOCHU (3,9%), Amerada Hess (2,7%).

 

The BTC Co. shareholders are: BP (30.1%); SOCAR (25.00%); Unocal (8.90%); Statoil (8.71%); TPAO (6.53%); ENI (5.00%); Total (5.00%), Itochu (3.40%); INPEX (2.50%), ConocoPhillips (2.50%) and Amerada Hess (2.36%).

 

The parties to the Shah Deniz Production Sharing Agreement are: BP (operator – 25.5%), Statoil (25.5%), the State Oil Company of Azerbaijan Republic (Socar - 10%), LUKAgip(10%), NICO (10%), Total (10%), and TPAO (9%).

 

The SCP Co. funding shareholders are: BP (technical operator – 25.5%), Statoil (commercial operator - 25.5%), the State Oil Company of Azerbaijan Republic (Socar - 10%), LUKAgip(10%), NICO (10%), Total (10%), and TPAO (9%).


“We believe this initiative helps raise young people’s awareness of the importance of sport and physical education to their health and development. This initiative is also an opportunity to reward those children who set an example to others through their personal commitment to the development of school physical education and national sport”, said Jacobus Nieuwenhuijze, Sangachal Terminal Expansion Project Director.

 

“The number of teams participating in this year’s tournament has increased significantly, which clearly indicates that the event is becoming more popular in the Garadagh distrcit where our terminal is located”, Jacobus added.

 

This year’s tournament covers 820 schoolchildren grouped in 82 teams, who represent eleven communities of the Garadagh district, including schools from the UMID refugee camp. The games will be held simultaneously in six football fields in the Sahil, Sangachal, Umid, Gobustan settlements and at the Sangacahl Terminal sports field. The tournament opened on the 29th of June and will continue through the 3rd of July. Semi-finals and finals will take place at the Lokbatan Olympic Centre.

 

“There’s no entrance fee for the tournament as the Sangachal Terminal with additional sponsors are funding the entire event. The First Tournament was held in June 2004. It proved to be the largest high school football tournament in Azerbaijan, involving 64 teams, 576 high schoolers and 64 coaches from the staff of the participating schools– one for each team. Last year’s tournament covered all settlements in the Garadagh district including Umid refugee and internally displaced persons settlement.
