Tomu District, Teluk Bintuni Regency, Papua Barat Province – SKK Migas and Tangguh LNG supported SMP Negeri 1 Aranday in holding the Zona Karya programme from 4-14 November 2024. This programme is part of the kurikulum merdeka initiative through the "strengthening Pancasila student profile project" and focused on three themes: sustainable living, engineering with technology, and unity in diversity.
Activities included mangrove planting, making simple solar panels, and preserving Indonesian culture through traditional dances, local food competitions, and cultural poster creation. The final event on 14 November showcased the students' creativity with environmental campaigns, simple technology demonstrations, and cultural performances celebrating diversity.
“We are proud to support activities that inspire students to innovate while caring for the environment and appreciating local culture. This is part of our commitment to education and community development in Papua Barat,” said Samuk Konyorah, social performance and delivery manager at bp Indonesia.
The programme was attended by local government officials, village leaders, parents, and local businesses. Durasim, headmaster of SMP Negeri 1 Aranday thanked SKK Migas and Tangguh LNG for their support, saying it made the programme a success and brought great benefits to the students and community.
“This programme enriches students’ learning while teaching them creativity, care for the environment, and love for their culture,” Durasim said.

Tangguh LNG is Indonesia's largest gas producer, contributing 35% of the country’s natural gas production. Operating since 2009, Tangguh includes offshore gas production facilities that supply three liquefaction trains, each with a capacity of 3.8 million metric tons per year (mtpa). Tangguh is operated by BP Berau Ltd. on behalf of its production-sharing contract partners under SKK Migas oversight.
Since 2005, Tangguh has invested over US$50 million in community empowerment programmes in Teluk Bintuni, where it operates.
