BP Foundation gives $100,000 to Red Cross to support Houston Flood victims

Release date:
April 20, 2016

HOUSTON – The BP Foundation has donated $100,000 to the Greater Houston Chapter of the American Red Cross to provide flood victims in the greater Houston area with food, water, health services and shelter following severe thunderstorms and flooding over the last several days in southeast Texas.

The BP Foundation also will match dollar for dollar donations that company employees make to the American Red Cross or a local disaster relief organization of their choice to support relief efforts.

“Watching the impact the storm and floods have had to our neighbors here in our own backyard and across southeast Texas was heart wrenching," said Iris Cross, the BP Foundation’s executive director. “We’re very glad that even during these challenging times for our industry we are able to lend support to help those in the communities where we live and work.”

With more than 5,000 employees, the Houston area is home to the single-largest concentration of BP employees anywhere in the world. In Texas, BP directly employs nearly 6,000 people and spends more than $9.2 billion with local businesses, supporting 28,000 jobs in the state.
