Measurement - metering and gauging

Every day, millions of barrels of liquid hydrocarbon products such as crude oil, refined products, natural gas, NGLs, and petrochemicals are moved through storage and pipeline transportation systems on their way from production fields to processing plants and to their final destination.

These products pass through a number of measurement points along the way as they are bought and sold. With a commodity so valuable, it is important to know how much is being transferred.

Measurement plays a critical role in the petroleum industry for producers and transporters of these products. In each exchange the buyers and sellers want to assure that the quantity and quality paid for are equal to what is being received.
